Satisfaction: 5/5

Trepang2 feels like the lovechild of Doom and F.E.A.R., a perfect mix of insane movement, satisfying gunplay, and a pinch of horror.

Tech: 5/5

Developed by Trepang Studios using Unreal Engine 4, Trepang2 is an impressive first outing. It looks great and performs even better, which is especially important for a fast-paced shooter.

The only technical issue I ran into was some of the audio being way too loud, even after lowering the volume settings.

Atmosphere: 5/5

Everything in Trepang2 looks fantastic, from the enemies, effects, and environments to the weapons and the player character. It all comes together nicely and really draws you into the world.

The soundtrack also deserves praise. It’s reminiscent of Doom but still manages to feel unique, and it matches the high-energy gameplay perfectly.

Replayability: 4/5

Replayability plays a decent role in Trepang2. While there’s not a ton of content beyond the campaign, I still found myself going back to try harder difficulties and enjoyed the survival mode.

Story: 4/5

Trepang2 tells the story of Subject 106, one of the many prisoners of the Horizon Corporation used in inhumane experiments. You are broken out by your predecessor and given the mission to destroy your creators.

The story isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it has a few good surprises and works well enough for a game of this type.

Final Score: 4.8/5

Pros:

  • Incredibly fun gameplay
  • Satisfying gunplay and movement
  • Excellent performance
  • Good graphics

Cons:

  • The game is short
