FEROCIOUS is an up-and-coming survival FPS featuring dinosaurs, currently being developed by OMYOG and published by tinyBuild.
Based on my experience with the recent public playtest, the game gave off strong Far Cry vibes, especially with its gritty healing animations where you pull shrapnel or bullets from your arm. While it’s clear the game is still in the early stages, I genuinely think there’s something promising here.
So let’s break down what I thought so far.
The Good
Even in this early state, the game was fun. Despite the rough edges, the gunplay felt solid and impactful. Enemy reactions to getting shot looked great, with plenty of blood and gore to back it up. On top of typical ragdoll physics, enemies sometimes stumble away after a lethal hit, bleeding out in dramatic fashion. One of the more unique mechanics is the ability to befriend dinosaurs, which can help you solve puzzles, create distractions, or even kill enemies.
The Bad
There’s no denying this is an early build. Movement feels clunky at times, like you’re steering a slightly drunk character. Some visual effects also need refinement. For example, the camera zooms in awkwardly when you start sprinting, and taking damage triggers a jarring screen effect similar to a concussion grenade in Call of Duty. Thankfully, all of this is fixable, and I hope these areas get polish before release.
Conclusion
Overall, I enjoyed my time with the playtest and I’m curious to see how things progress. The team behind it may be small, but with tinyBuild as the publisher and their history of backing quality indie titles, I have reason to be optimistic. FEROCIOUS might still be early in development, but it already shows some real potential.
